Much like a floppy disk, the CD-ROM disk is portable. It can be transported and used in any other PC which has a CD-ROM drive.

However, unlike a floppy, most CD-ROM disks and drives are read only>. This means the CD-ROM drive can read information from the disk or "play" the disk. It does not have the capability to write information to the disk.
